Captivated by Curaçao: My Sandals Royal Experience

From the moment I arrived at Sandals Royal Curaçao, I knew this wasn’t going to be just another resort stay—it was going to be something special. As a travel advisor, I’ve visited my fair share of all-inclusive properties, but this one? It took my breath away in all the best ways.

Tucked away on the stunning southern coast of Curaçao, this resort is where European elegance meets Caribbean soul. The moment I stepped onto the property, I was greeted with ocean views that stretch for miles, modern Dutch architecture, and the kind of warmth from the staff that instantly makes you feel like family.

This trip wasn’t just about relaxation—it was about experiencing everything I’d want my clients to enjoy. From the off-site Island Inclusive dining program to the dreamy two-tiered infinity pool, every detail was designed with luxury and authenticity in mind.

In this blog, I’ll be sharing my favorite moments, can’t-miss tips, and behind-the-scenes insight into what makes Sandals Royal Curaçao truly unforgettable—whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, destination wedding, honeymoon, or just in need of a well-earned escape.

📌 Quick Resort Facts

Here’s a snapshot of what you’ll find at Sandals Royal Curaçao:

  • 🍽️ 8 restaurants plus 3 food trucks serving up global flavors and local favorites
  • 🍹 13 bars offering unlimited premium liquors and handcrafted cocktails
  • 🏖️ 2 pools, including the show-stopping Dos Awa Infinity Pool
  • 🌊 Complimentary water sports, land activities, and curated island excursions

This resort blends adventure, relaxation, and upscale comfort in a way that truly sets it apart.

🌴 The Resort Vibe & Atmosphere

When it comes to accommodations at Sandals Royal Curaçao, one thing is clear: you have options—and they are stunning. There’s a premium variety of room categories to choose from, which is something I absolutely love when recommending this resort to clients with different preferences, travel styles, and budgets.

🏡 Rondoval Suites

If privacy and elegance are what you’re after, the Rondoval Suites are a dream. These round, standalone villas are tucked away for an intimate experience and offer features like plunge pools, soaking tubs, and butler service. They’re perfect for honeymooners or couples who want their own little private oasis within the resort.

🌊 Awa Seaside Butler Bungalows

For the ultimate in luxury and location, the Awa Seaside Butler Bungalows are hard to beat. These over-the-water-inspired bungalows sit right along the shoreline, offering uninterrupted ocean views, private sun decks, and direct access to the water. With butler service included, it’s a next-level experience where every detail is handled for you. This is the kind of suite you book when you’re celebrating something truly special—or when you just want to feel like royalty.

💗 Kurason Island Poolside Bungalows

The Kurason Bungalows are a guest favorite for good reason. These cozy, modern suites are arranged around a charming, heart-shaped pool in the center of the resort’s private island garden area. Each one comes with a secluded patio, perfect for sipping coffee in the morning or winding down in the evening. You get privacy, charm, and beauty all wrapped into one.

Whether you’re looking for seaside romance, total privacy, or a poolside retreat, there’s truly something here for everyone. And as a travel advisor, I can help match you with the perfect room category based on your travel goals and what matters most to you—from budget to views to luxury touches.

If I had to sum up Sandals Royal Curaçao, I’d say it’s nothing short of captivating. This resort stands out in the Sandals lineup in all the best ways. Nestled on the southern coast of Curaçao within the exclusive Santa Barbara estate, it offers a peaceful escape from the island’s busier areas. It’s a bit off the beaten path—and that’s part of its charm.

Although the airport is only about 16 miles away, I timed the drive back using my Life360 app, and it took just over 40 minutes. The extra travel time makes perfect sense once you see how tucked away the resort is. But trust me, it’s completely worth it when you arrive and take in the views across this stunning 44-acre beachfront property.

🏝️ Location, Views & Weather

As a travel advisor, I’m always on the lookout for destinations that offer both natural beauty and thoughtful design—and Sandals Royal Curaçao delivers on both fronts.

The views here are truly spectacular. From the moment you arrive, you’re met with panoramic vistas of the Caribbean Sea, where rugged cliffs frame deep blue waters and golden sunsets fade into the horizon. Constant ocean breezes add a layer of relaxation that makes you feel instantly at ease.

Curaçao itself has a unique climate compared to many other Caribbean islands. With its dry, desert-like landscape, the island experiences sunny skies nearly year-round and very little rain. It’s an ideal setting for travelers who want to maximize time outdoors—whether it’s lounging by the pool, exploring the coastline, or heading out on an island excursion.

🏛️ Resort Layout & Architecture

The resort’s layout is one of its most impressive features. It’s spacious without feeling overwhelming—you have plenty of room to breathe and relax, but everything is still easily accessible. Even at full occupancy, it never felt crowded during my stay. The architecture reflects a Dutch-Caribbean fusion, with clean lines, bright finishes, and a touch of European elegance—all set against a stunning seaside backdrop.

And let’s talk about the Dos Awa Infinity Pool for a second. This double-tiered infinity pool is honestly one of the coolest pools I’ve ever seen. It overlooks the ocean, and it makes you feel like you’re floating right into the horizon. Whether you’re sipping a cocktail or taking a dip, it’s the place to be.

💃 Overall Atmosphere

As a travel advisor, I always pay close attention to the overall feel of a resort—and Sandals Royal Curaçao strikes a beautiful balance between romantic relaxation and vibrant energy. The atmosphere is upscale and refined, perfect for couples looking to unwind in luxury, but it also offers plenty of ways to stay active and entertained.

From poolside fun and gourmet food trucks to live entertainment and curated excursions, there’s always something happening—but never so much that it feels chaotic. The vibe remains relaxed and elevated, making it ideal for honeymoons, anniversaries, or just a much-needed escape for two.

That said, if a long, walkable beach is a priority for your vacation, this may not be the perfect match. While there is a swimmable beach area, it’s smaller compared to other Sandals properties, and the water sports selection is more limited due to the coastline’s layout.

Still, in my experience, what this resort may lack in beachfront, it more than makes up for with breathtaking views, exceptional service, and a fresh, modern design that sets it apart. The property is meticulously maintained, and there’s a sense of peaceful luxury everywhere you turn. From the moment you arrive, you’ll know you’ve stepped into something truly special.

🍽️ A Food Lover’s Paradise

Dining here is a dream. With eight restaurants on-site and the Island Inclusive program (which lets you enjoy curated off-site dining experiences), your taste buds are in for a vacation of their own. Whether you’re craving sushi, Mediterranean flavors, a gourmet steak, or a romantic beachfront meal, there’s something here for every craving and every mood.

🍽️ Dining Experiences

One thing Sandals always gets right is the food—and Royal Curaçao did not disappoint. I had the chance to try several restaurants on property, and each one brought something different to the table—literally.

🔸 Vincent

This is the resort’s signature restaurant, inspired by the creativity of Vincent van Gogh. The vibe is artistic and modern, and the dishes are just as beautiful as they are delicious. I recommend making this one of your first dinner stops—especially if you want a romantic night out with great service.
Reservations – This is one of the most popular dining spots on the property, so booking early is essential. You can reserve through the Sandals app, at the Club Sandals lounge, or via your butler if you’re staying in a Club or Butler-level suite.

🔸 Butch’s Island Chop House

If you’re looking for a refined, fine dining experience during your stay, Butch’s Island Chop House is a must. Named in honor of Sandals’ founder, Gordon “Butch” Stewart, this upscale steakhouse blends elegance with island charm, creating the perfect atmosphere for a romantic night out or a celebratory dinner.

Dining Tips:

Reservations – This is one also one of the most popular dining spots on the property, so booking early is essential. You can reserve through the Sandals app, at the Club Sandals lounge, or via your butler if you’re staying in a Club or Butler-level suite.

Dress Code – Resort evening attire is required here, so be sure to dress accordingly. Think collared shirts and dress shoes for gentlemen, and chic resort wear for ladies.

Wine Pairings – Don’t hesitate to ask the servers for wine pairing recommendations—they’re knowledgeable and happy to enhance your meal.

My Experience:

I was genuinely impressed by the quality of both the cuisine and the service. My steak was cooked to absolute perfection, and the addition of lobster made it even more indulgent. The atmosphere was classy yet relaxed, and every detail of the evening felt intentional. Butch’s truly lives up to its reputation as one of the standout dining venues at Sandals Royal Curaçao.

🔸 Gatsu Gatsu

A sushi lover’s paradise! Gatsu Gatsu offers an elevated Asian-fusion experience with freshly prepared rolls and flavorful entrees. It’s chic, energetic, and great for either a casual date night or a girls’ night dinner.

Pro tip: order a mix of the chef’s special rolls and don’t skip the cocktails.

🔸 Strand

This beachside spot is all about simplicity done right. Serving up some of the freshest fish and seafood on the island, Strand lets you enjoy your meal just steps from the sand. Whether you’re in the mood for a full entrée or just want to stop by for a light appetizer and a refreshing cocktail with a view, this laid-back gem is the perfect place to soak in the island vibes.

🚚 Kishi Beach Food Trucks – A Casual Culinary Delight

The beachfront food truck area adds a casual, local touch and is a great spot for lunch or snacks.

For a relaxed yet delectable dining experience, head over to the trio of food trucks nestled along Kishi Beach. These vibrant trucks offer a variety of flavors, perfect for a laid-back lunch or a quick bite between activities.

  • Toteki: Dive into authentic Curaçaoan comfort food. Signature dishes like Keshi Yena—a savory baked cheese stuffed with spiced meat—and Kabritu Stoba, a tender goat stew, provide a taste of local tradition.
  • La Palma: Savor Spanish-inspired tapas with a Caribbean twist. Favorites include crispy patatas bravas, grilled chorizo, and marinated shrimp skewers, ideal for sharing under the sun.
  • Kishi: Enjoy Asian fusion delights such as teriyaki rice bowls and fluffy bao buns filled with options like crispy chicken or succulent pork, offering a fresh and flavorful beachside meal.

These food trucks not only serve delicious fare but also contribute to the resort’s vibrant and casual atmosphere, making them a must-visit during your stay.

🍷 Dining Tips

  • Make reservations early for restaurants like Vincent and Butch’s Island Chop House. These fill up fast!
  • Lunch at the food trucks near the water is a must—great for a quick bite between pool and beach.
  • Room service is included and the menu is solid, so don’t hesitate to have a slow morning with breakfast in bed.

🌆Island Inclusive Dining Experience

One of the things that makes this resort stand out is its Island Inclusive program. If you book a Butler-level suite (like the Awa Bungalows), you get access to select off-site local restaurants—with transportation included. It’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in the island’s culture without giving up the perks of your all-inclusive stay.

I had the chance to dine off-site and it was such a refreshing addition to the trip. It gives you a reason to explore Curaçao beyond the resort gates while still feeling taken care of. I highly recommend taking advantage of this if it’s included in your room category.

🎉 Activities & Excursions

There is no shortage of things to do at Sandals Royal Curaçao. Whether you’re the “never leave the pool” type or you’re looking to explore the island, you’ll find something that fits your style.

🏊‍♀️ Resort Fun

  • The Dos Awa Infinity Pool is a full-day vibe. Bring a book, grab a drink, and just relax with those panoramic ocean views—it’s truly one of the most photogenic pool settings I’ve ever seen.
  • Biking around the property is not only encouraged—it’s genuinely fun! You’ll spot the adorable Sandals-branded bikes parked all over the resort. I loved hopping on one and riding along the coastline. And yes, I definitely did that more than a few times—and absolutely LOVED it.
Just a friendly tip: Don’t accidentally grab someone else’s bike parked outside a restaurant or near a guest room—they might be using it for their own transportation!
  • Pickleball has become a favorite activity among guests here, and Sandals Royal Curaçao has fully embraced the trend. Whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned player, you’ll love the dedicated courts and the lively energy. They even host friendly pickleball tournaments, which are a fun way to meet other guests and enjoy a little light competition during your stay.

🌊 Water Sports

While the beach here is smaller, there are still a few included activities like snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Just keep in mind that the variety is more limited compared to other Sandals locations due to the coastline setup.

  • If snorkeling is a must for you. The underwater visibility here is incredible, and snorkeling excursions are available through the resort or local operators. They even have a night snorkel option, You just have to have 6 people and sign up at least a day before to make sure the captain is available
  • For guests looking to explore beneath the surface, Sandals Royal Curaçao also offers SNUBA®—a unique hybrid between snorkeling and scuba diving. It’s perfect for those who want to go deeper than traditional snorkeling but aren’t certified for scuba.
  • With SNUBA, you’re connected to a surface raft by an air hose, which lets you dive down up to 20 feet without carrying a bulky tank. It’s easy to learn, requires no prior experience, and gives you the chance to see Curaçao’s vibrant marine life up close in a safe, guided setting. Whether you’re swimming alongside colorful reef fish or just enjoying the feeling of weightless exploration, it’s an unforgettable underwater adventure.

🚙 Excursions Off Property

  • Jeep tour around the island anyone? Curaçao has such unique terrain and colorful architecture, and getting off-road for a bit sounds like an adventure worth taking.
  • If you have time, a half-day trip to downtown Willemstad is a must. The pastel buildings, floating bridge, and waterfront shopping scene are straight out of a postcard. It’s also a great place to pick up souvenirs that you can not find at the resort.
🎶 Nightlife & Entertainment

Evenings at the resort strike the perfect balance—lively, but never overwhelming. From live music and cultural performances to themed nights and beach parties, there’s always something going on if you’re in the mood to stay out after dinner. One of my favorite ways to wind down was grabbing a drink and relaxing by the beachfront firepit, soaking in the ocean breeze and stargazing under the Curaçao sky. This resort truly offers the best of both worlds—vibrant entertainment and peaceful, romantic moments.
