Airplane Mode: A New Perspective

Are you able to remember your very first flight? There is something to be said about that initial nervous feeling of knowing that you are traveling thousands of feet above the ground in an airplane that happens to be traveling way above the normal interstate speed limit. In full transparency, my life has not always been centered around travel and until much later in life I did not venture out beyond the occasional trip down to Disney or to a vacation home on the beach. Even when travel became more a part of my life, I have managed to visit all of the places I have experienced via car or cruise ship, until this past month. The initial invite to visit one of the most beautiful travel destinations as a representative of our travel agency (Sojourney Travel) meant that I would have to step outside of my comfort zone. I was going to have to fly, but not only was I going to have to fly, this was going to be something that I would have to do without my husband who has always been my #1 travel companion and who happens to have flown many times, in which I found comfort in because for some reason I just always assumed my first flight would be with he and I together, but that was not the case.

I cannot but help and compare this first flight to so many adventures that I have taken for the first time in my life. Flying is sort of like starting your own business – it certainly does not happen without some sort of awareness (some might say fear but we have to understand that we are not called to fear). Have you ever wondered just how airplanes work? I have thought so many times at just how something so large in size should not be able to fly so fast – it just does not seem possible. In fact, to most for a very long time it seemed impossible, until it wasn’t. Doesn’t that seem familiar to our life sometimes? Things can seem impossible from time to time, until they are not.

In order for an airplane to fly something powerful has to happen – gravity has to be overcome! The thing which is holding the airplane down, or in this case that which is working against the airplane has to be conquered before flight can take place. My husband preaches sometimes on how gravity works and it makes a whole lot of sense when he is preaching it but I am not going to attempt to try and figure all that out here, you can google it (LOL)!

I started thinking on the idea that in order for an airplane to get off the ground and soar in the air, it has to push into that which works against it. It uses the power of speed and direction combined with the direction of the wind to grab ahold of the air and lift off the ground. That is what I want to encourage you with today, use what is working against you to take you to another level.

I realized that I may have been a little more concerned about flying than I ever thought about as I made my way through TSA (If you know, you know) and found my gate. The nervousness became real as I made my way through the door onto the airplane and found my seat. How did I get here? What am I doing? I really hope this thing has enough gas to get us there, and do they check the tires every time it stops? How fast am I about to go? Wait, this little seatbelt is supposed to do something? (Yes, all questions that ran through my mind) I could have easily raised my hand and volunteered to exit, but I knew that the destination was going to be worth it.

I want to encourage you that the destination is worth it. The dreams that you have for your life and the purpose that God has placed inside of you is worth pushing past that which is working against you. In fact, I would add that the view is much better on the journey anyways. Everything changes when you are in the air, even when turbulence happens, somehow the flight remains on course for the final destination. Of course there is risk involved, but there is risk in almost everything that we do! However, when you find yourself in that new place or that new season, the risk somehow becomes a secondary thought.

This adventure to Mexico was more than just a much needed experience as a travel advisor, it was an experience that I needed in my personal life as well. I needed a reminder in this season since the loss of my mom that I am still able to pursue that passion and purpose that God has placed inside of me. I needed to push past that which has been working against me to launch into the next level. Our life does not have to remain on ground level, we are called to new & exciting destinations that are full of beauty.

The purpose of this particular journey to Mexico was for me to have a personal experience of some of the all-inclusive resorts that Cancun & Tulum have to offer my clients. Let me just remind you that the flight was worth it! I was able to experience all of the beauty and culture of Mexico through this World of Hyatt adventure. As I made my way to each resort throughout this trip, I realized that even though I was in a new destination, there was still something for everyone. Each resort had so much to offer and if you are looking to experience the vacation of a lifetime with everything included, then pack your bags and find the nearest airport because it is time to take off!
