The rich culture combined with the breathtaking beauty of this destination makes it a travel destination that will be sure to make you want to visit again and again. The colorful buildings with their recognizable Dutch architecture looks as if they are strategically placed along the shoreline to draw your eyes into this beautiful place. The location of Curacao has guaranteed a rich culture that invites you into what it really means to live in the Caribbean. This island was colonized by the Spanish and then followed by the Dutch which can first be noticed by the architecture and color in the buildings that stand waving at the shoreline. Will Curacao be your next travel destination?

Things To Know Before You Go
Language – Be prepared to be surrounded by so many different languages all at once! Curacao native language is Papiamentu – this is a language that reflects the rich culture of the island by combining Creole, Dutch, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and even Arawak Indian. The three official languages are:
- Papiamentu (The most common language used on the island)
- Dutch
- English
Weather – If you could think of the perfect temperature for your ideal vacation to the Caribbean, it would have to be found in Curacao – the average temperature of the water is around 80F which is a perfect temperature for a relaxing time in the water.
One of my favorite parts about Curacao is that it is located outside of the path of most hurricanes which makes it an ideal location as opposed to many of the other destinations that often times have bad weather. This does not mean that the weather is guaranteed to be perfect, but it may be pretty close.
So the water is perfect temperature, the bad weather is minimal, and the temperatures during the hottest times of the year are around 90F, that makes this destination one that should be at the top of your list. What are you waiting for?
Currency – Curacao uses the Antillean Guilder (ANG) which can also be called the Florin. The good part for those who are traveling from the United States, the exchange rate is set at a fixed rate. In order to keep things simple for you, just know that you can use the US dollar while you are visiting and making all of your purchases. So unless you are just wanting to have a little bit of foreign money in your pocket, you can feel free to hold onto your US dollars.
Drinking Water – I know that it has become common for us to not drink the water when traveling to different places for various reasons but you will be glad to know that Curacao water is safe to drink and is known for being great tasting. The water here is known for being soft, and having no chloride or calcium, which means that you do not have to worry about the water having a strong bleach taste or smelling like you should not drink it.
Things To Do:
Klein Curacao – This might be better known as “Little Curacao” and you are going to want to make sure it is at the top of your list of places to visit while you are here. If you are someone who loves to soak up the sun like I do then you will be sure to want and find yourself sitting on the white sand beaches of Klein Curacao. The water here is that clear blue water that you picture every time you think of the perfect beach visit. This should be something that you plan as an entire day trip because it is located about 2 hours off the coast. If you are someone who loves to scuba dive then this is going to be the place for you also. The water is calm and the waves are just right.

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling – If you are someone who enjoys taking your adventure to the next level by snorkeling or scuba diving in the beautiful waters of the Caribbean then you are going to never want to leave Curacao. There are so many different places to explore while you are visiting. I will have to admit that my last scuba adventure has got me ready for another one very soon! There is just something fascinating about being able to breathe under water and enjoy God’s beautiful creation that does not just stop at surface level. Consider some of the following dive and snorkel sites:
- Airplane Wreck
- Double Reef
- Eel Valley
- Light Tower
- Lover’s Beach, Vaersenbaai and the Car Wrecks
- Playa Lagun
- Tug Boat
- Watamula
